The good hotel guide

Jean-Marie and Christine Allard's smart little chalet hotel, 'friendly and pleasant', with its colourful decor of Provençal fabrics, wooden beams, panelling and ceilings, has just been totally renovated although it is only 12 years old. It is near the resort centre and the buses to the pistes, but is backed by woods and fields. You can breakfast in the garden. A recent paean: 'Our small, very comfortable room had a balcony with wonderful mountain views.' The kitchen, the Allards tell us, uses 'les bonnes vieilles recettes'. 'Dinner retains its Savoyard character: good hams, cheeses, a range of fondues. Excellent local breads for breakfast.' In the spacious lounge/bar with its log fire, 'the Allards are always on hand'. 'The international clientele included Russians and Brazilians.' (NF)
